the oblique

Document Cost: $1,000.00 US¹

first floor plan - 1 br/1bth

The Oblique is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home using hybrid construction, meaning both High Cube shipping containers as well as SIP (Structural Insulated Panels) technology are used in the fabrication of this home to create an ultra-energy efficient home that is modular and modern.

The first floor houses 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom, kitchen with pantry, HVAC closet, as well as living and dining spaces with access to outdoor patios.  The stair is an open steel frame anchored to the SIPs allowing for a very open “loft” theme in the main living space.

second floor plan - 2 br/1 bth + office and laundry

Once at the second floor landing, you first enter the open office space.  Moving down the hall are the laundry room, second bathroom and the remaining two bedrooms.  In an effort to save space, sliding doors are used wherever possible.

The home is insulated with a minimum 2″ of closed cell spray foam insulation and finished with either cement stucco or horizontal/vertical cement fiber board siding.  All colors to be chosen by the client.  The renderings below depict cement stucco with darker earth tones.  The home sits on a insulated poured concrete slab foundation.  A basement can be added if desired.

  1. Is there a way I could build the first floor and then later add the second…I would love to know if I could do this as well as how long would the process take to get the first floor plan built?

    • Wendy, I actually designed this with the intent that the first floor could be constructed and the second added on at a later date. I’d be happy to talk with you more if you’d like to contact me directly at jrussell@ronestudioarch.com.

      Thanks for taking an interest!
      Cheers.

  2. how many sq ft is this home? I live in WPB FL, is central A/C with ducts worked into this plan? How many containers are needed and what is the approx. cost? Do you work with someone who prefabs the containers?

    • William, thank you for commenting. I’d be happy to talk with you more about the specifics of this design privately. And I do create custom designs as well. I am a licensed architect in florida, so I can help with whatever your needs are. Please go to the about/contact page and contact me anytime. I’m happy to help.
      Thank you.
