Designed in collaboration with another designer, the ISBU Studio was originally meant to be part of a series of designs for a rapidly reproduce-able housing solution for low income neighborhoods. This particular design is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit constructed from (2) 20′ shipping containers (320 square feet) with a SIP roof system and spray foam exterior insulation on all 6 sides. The foundation can be either slab on grade or stem wall (as shown).
The design is meant to provide basic living accommodations in a minimal amount of space. As you can see in the floor plan, no space has been wasted or given over to any function that is not absolutely necessary. The ISBU Studio is ideal for either rapid sustainable housing or possibly even a mother-in-law suite or rental property.
