Since the late 19th century there have been a number of defined architectural styles such as the international style, neoclassical, modern, post modern, vernacular and an assortment of revival styles. Is there a movement or style of architecture today? If so, how do we categorize it? Can it be categorized? Are we simply continuing the modern style of an honest expression of structure, form, function and technology or is there something new driving the direction of contemporary architecture? Are there any thoughts on the future of architecture out there?
Locally I mostly see a re-expression of old styles that no longer have a place in our modern times, which, to me, does a disservice to the essence of a historical style and what it stood for at it’s time. I see architecture taking on a new shape lately. A shape driven by technology and a limitless imagination to create. The old adage of “form following function” no longer need apply. Instead the form can define the function or can suggest a new way of functioning. Today architecture has the power to redefine the way we live, work and play. I wonder if “style” has a place anymore.
Thank you,,it’s really help…
